Mallory turned 1 on Friday, July 31st. To start off the festivities, we headed out together as a family, in the morning, running a whole bunch of errands to get ready for her big birthday bash on Saturday. This was special, because we were able to turn Mallory’s car seat around, and have her forward facing for the first time. It was almost like she was a newborn again, she didn’t make a peep. She was so overwhelmed with the new view she had, she just soaked it all up.
Once as got home from running errands, it was nap time, cupcake with candle time, and time to get ready for Mallory’s first Twins game. We were all set with our “Circle Me Bert” sign, and headed off to the Metrodome. Mallory did great! She was even able to pick TC Bear out of the crowd. Before the game, he was milling around on the field, and Mallory would not stop pointing at him, and clapping. Later on during the game, TC Bear was in our section, just goofing off, and again, Mallory was pointing and laughing at him. I think it’s amazing she was able to determine that was a fuzzy bear, with all the activity that was going on around us.

The game was tied 5-5 at the end of nine innings, and Mallory was already up way past her bed time, so we headed home. We had to make a mad dash for the car, as it was pouring rain outside of the dome. We learned that Mallory does NOT like to run and get wet. HA!
On Saturday, we hosted Mallory’s 1st Birthday Party at our house, in the backyard. Thank goodness the weather was good, until later in the afternoon. Even then it was still nice outside, just a little colder than we would have liked it. From morning until night, Mallory did just wonderful. She was able to get a nice nap in before everyone arrived, and she made it all afternoon and evening, with no fussiness or issues.
While the rest of us enjoyed sloppy joes, chips and pasta salad, Mallory had chicken strips and corn for her birthday dinner. Pretty soon it was time for presents. I can’t believe all the cool things Mallory got for her birthday from friends and family. Lots of interactive toys, cool, new clothes, and even some new books! I think it’s a toss up for her favorite, between her new push car, and her jiggle garden.

After presents, it was CAKE TIME! The Farmington Bakery made a nice little cake for her to dig into. Unfortunately I was not able to light the candle, due to the wind outside, so we just sang, and away she went. She actually picked the letters off the top of the cake first, ate them one by one, and then dug into the side of the cake. Mallory was having a blast! All of a sudden, she started clapping, and boy did the frosting fly! It was so much fun watching her eat her cake! If it wasn’t so messy, I would let her do it more often!

Once everyone had gone, Mallory had her nighttime milk in her sippy cup, rather than her bottle. She sucked it right down, and off to dreamland she went, sleeping through the night, twelve straight hours. She had to have been pooped!
The day was hers, and nothing will top it. What a great day and great memory! While I struggle sometimes to accept how fast they grow, each day brings a new milestone that I can’t wait to be a part of.
Happy Birthday Mallory!
WE LOVE YOU!
