Two years, come and gone, just like that. We found ourselves going to the doc for Mallory’s wellness check, and realized we have only had to take her to the doctor for something other than wellness, twice in her two short years. That’s pretty darn good I would have to say, and the doctor agreed.Mallory’s appointment went great, albeit 20 minutes later than scheduled, she didn’t mind running around the room in just her pull – up. We even went and used the potty once while we were waiting!
Mallory is a very healthy little girl. She is still long and lean and the doctor finally agreed, she will probably stay that way. Developmentally she is a little ahead of the game, and showed off a few of her skills for the doctor, like counting to twenty, saying hippopotamus, which comes out HOMANUS, and even rolling her belly!
Here are her two years stats:
Height: 2’ 11 “ = 77th percentile
Weight: 23 pounds 9.6 ounces = 11th percentile
Head: 47.5 cm = 48th percentile
We had to suffer through two different sticks this time, and while Mallory handled them as you can expect a two year old to handle shots, her legs tensed up real hard between the two shots, causing a lot more pain for the second one, and some stiffness in the days to follow. I have never seen her sit so still on the couch to watch Baby Einstein. She didn’t move at all, her little legs were so sore! Mallory also got the seasonal flu mist and that also went just fine, since there are no needles associated with that vaccination. The nice part it, we are all done for a whole year! Unless of course, something unusual happens and Mallory actually catches something!
Some other fun two year updates include Mallory’s vocabulary. It’s really intense with a lot of words, and the formation of sentences. Her favorite one right now happens to be “It’s really nice outside”. I know she’s just repeating what she hears, but it’s impressive to us since it’s the whole sentence and not just a word here and there.
We have also been without baby gates for quite some time now, but even so, Mallory has been handling the steps even better as of late. She always holds onto the railing, or our hands, and can go up or down alternating, instead of one at a time. Probably because of her long legs!
One other huge accomplishment this summer, is swimming. I am sure you all know from reading this blog, we enrolled Mallory in swimming lessons for the first time, about a years ago, right after she turned one. She participated in a second session this past winter, and while I was going to put her into a third one at the end of the summer this year, we opted to wait until winter. I think she would be bored. She is a good little swimmer, and proved it this past weekend. Christopher has been swimming with her all summer at Grandma Dee’s pool, and while they started out playing on the steps of the pool, they have graduated to swimming in the pool with a life jacket on and Mallory goes all by herself. She will jump in all by herself, and doesn’t freak out if she goes under water. All that proved good exposure when she went swimming “by herself” in the lake this past weekend. We took the pontoon to the middle of the lake, dropped the anchor and in she went. Life jacket on of course, and we were right there also, but she had no qualms about taking a dip in the lake. Both days she swam for about 1.5 hours straight. Christopher had a huge smile on his face, while I had a tear in my eye.

Everything about Mallory and this whole experience so far as been truly, truly amazingly wonderful. She is a top notch kid, with great skills that are just getting better and better. We are very lucky and blessed and over the moon with Mallory!
