Running The Bases

Since Christopher and I have birthdays that are five days apart, we have learned it's a bit easier to celebrate them at the same time.  This year we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of Minnesota Twins baseball games.  We bought tickets to two back to back games on Memorial Day weekend.  Saturday May 26th and Sunday, May 27th vs. the Detroit Tigers.  On Saturday we went with some friends, on Sunday we took Mallory.

Mallory has been to Target Field once before to celebrate Grandma Dee's Birthday two summers ago.  Thank goodness she is petite because her pink Twins t-shirt still fit her, although I think this was probably the last outing as it was quite tight going over the head and arms.  Mallory was very excited to go to the game and had been talking about it the whole week prior.

We decided to take the Metro Transit Light Rail Train for two reasons.  1. It drops you off right outside of the Gate 6 to Target Field.  2.  Mallory LOVES riding the train.  Once we were on the train she could hardly contain her excitement.  She was starting out the window the whole way giving us play by play as to what she was witnessing flying by.  At each stop she was careful to watch (and even try and count) how many people and got on the train and how many people got off.  Once we got to Target Field, she was skipping with excitement.

We walked inside the ballpark and right away she was asking for ice cream in a little helmet.  This was a treat she had enjoyed the last time we were at a Twins game, two years prior.  It's amazing what those little brains can retain and remember.  We watched the entire game in the shade, sitting in the "home run porch" in left field.  Since the Twins are not having a stellar season, we were pleased to see when they took the lead and the pitching staff was doing a fine job holding said lead.  That is until the closer (use that term loosely) Matt Capps came in and gave up a two run home run to seal the deal for the Tigers.  Oh well, we still had fun as a family and watching Mallory bounce around between innings to the music, giggle at TC Bear's on the field antics and generally have a good time was the best birthday present we could've asked for.  She had a lot of fun.

Another fun part of the say was Sunday's are kids days at Target Field and kids can run the bases after the game.  Soooooo down the back ramp we went and waited our turn.  It was VERY cool to walk out onto the field and look up towards the stands.  They do not let you walk on the turf, just the warning track, but even so, it was still neat to be "on the field".  We both thought she would be very excited to run the bases, but once we were on the field she got a little scared and while she ran the bases with her daddy, she was crying most of the way.

The day was long, but it was so much fun.  We had a great time, just the three of us, celebrating our birthdays and a special day at the ballpark for Mallory!
