This was Mallory’s second year, but really her first in which she could enjoy it herself. Last year she was only two months old, and spent most of her time in the car seat sleeping. Not the case this year!
We had a great drive up, stopping in Hinckley at Tobies, and Duluth for lunch at Grandma’s. After a little “where is my wallet” scare, we were back on the road to Bayfield. It was raining lightly when we left, but the closer we got to Bayfield, the more monsoon like it got. Mallory didn’t seem to mind, she was watching Elmo’s world the whole way there. We borrowed a portable DVD player from a friend of mine, and I am sure we will be investing in one after the success of it. Mallory was very content and oh, so happy in her car seat for the long ride, as long as she could watch Elmo. Oh, as for the wallet, it was at home in the kitchen drawer the whole time. A BIG thanks to Grandma Dee for figuring that one out!
Once we were in Bayfield, we got settled in. Mallory had to check out everything in the condo we were staying in, including the crank out windows.

A little later, we got all bundled up to head out for supper. Mallory has a new three wheeled stroller too. Which I have to say is WAY better to navigate with than our old one. This stroller is amazing, and it even has shocks! She was so excited to go, she didn’t even seem to mind her hat and gloves. Actually she holds her hands out to put them on, and then claps her hands with excitement. If she is not in her stroller, she walks around waving her hand in the air with her gloves on, she just loves them!

Saturday proved to be about 50% better. The wind was not as strong, but it rained ALL DAY . Even so, we took the ferry over to Madeline Island for lunch at The Beach Club. It was a fun ride to and fro, Mallory was loving the ferry!

Saturday night we ventured out again to watch the boat parade. Unfortunately it was cancelled, but we are not sure why. It had stopped raining by then, and the lake was pretty calm. Not to bad for us though, Mallory had enough of the cold, wet outdoors and was ready for bath, cuddle time in front of the fire and bed. She was much happier once we were back in the room.
Sunday was a nice day, it was still cold, but the rain had finally stopped and the sun even came out for a little while. In the morning we headed out of town to Hauser’s Apple Orchard. There we went on a hayride, got to pick some apples, and taste some nummy treats.
In the afternoon is was parade time. Mallory has seen her share of parades this summer, but this was the first time she had her own chair. Grandpa Hauer picked it up for her this summer. She just loves it, and although she spent most of the parade in my lap, she didn’t mind being a superstar for a little while!
On Sunday night we went to the Steak Pit in Washburn , WI . We have made this an annual trip for us, and it never disappoints, until this year. Seriously, for the first time I was unhappy with my meal. The steak was undercooked and the lobster was overcooked. Not to mention the fact, they gave our table of 10 the rookie waitress. No good.
Mallory was happy to walk around and look at all the fish on the walls, pointing them out and saying “fish” over and over. She just loves fish.
On Sunday night, I was packing up a few things when Mallory reached into my bag, took out my headband, put it on her head, just like it’s suppose to be worn and started walking around. How she knows to do these things is beyond me! I just can’t figure it out!
Monday was a calm ride home, more Elmo, with another stop in Duluth for lunch at Green Mill this time. Once we were home, it started raining again. Ho hum. It was a nice weekend away from work and with friends. It seems to fly by faster and faster each year, and I am sure it will only seem like its going quicker as Mallory gets older. I just love the Apple Fest, it’s my doorway to fall. Here’s hoping Mallory has just as many good years there as we have.
