Another couple of firsts checked off the list. On Thursday, March 1st, Mallory went to Cub Foods, Apple Valley on her first school field trip. During this field trip Mallory was able to ride a school bus for the first time too! She was so excited, she talked about it for weeks!
I was lucky enough to take the afternoon off and chaperone. I was just as excited to watch Mallory on her first field trip and bus ride as she was to go. The kids were so wound up when we got to school. I have even more respect for their teacher and her abilities to get those kids to calm down enough to prepare to leave. She truly has a magic touch! The bus pulled up and out the door we went.
Once at Cub Foods, they greeted the children and then kind of went over the plan for the tour. It started in the produce section and moved through the major areas of the store like the meat department and the bakery. In the back room of the produce department, the employees gave the children a forklift demonstration. They were pretty mesmerized.
Next it was onto the meat department where my little peanut REFUSED to wear the required hairnet. Unfortunately the meltdown spilled over into the bakery portion of the tour, which she also missed. I guess not every child wants to see how they package meat or bake a cake. Be sure to watch the video....
Eventually she overcame her hairnet hysteria and was able to move on. Next they showed the children the milk cooler, the deep freeze and a tractor trailer that was backed up to the loading dock. All the children thought the idea of standing the in the back of a semi while it was "hooked up" to the building was a pretty neat feat.
After all the back room commotion, they walked the isles a bit (the ice cream isle brought out the most excitement in the kids) and then they received a treat at the end of the tour. Each child received an apple, bottle of water and a toy of some type. Mallory's treat bag held a bottle of bubbles and she was quite pleased. She was also quite pleased to share her seat with her "boyfriend" Sander. I am quite pleased she is so close to him. He is a sweet little boy who always treats her nicely. They have a lot of fun at school together and sure do make for good photos opportunities.
After snack it was time to get back onto the bus and head back to school. Each and every one of those kids had a blast riding that bus. They were all impressed by the fact they did not have to wear seat belts and could sit three to a seat. It was so fun watching Mallory ride that bus. She just loved it.
Once the kids were back at school, they talked and talked about the bus ride, the forklift, the tractor trailer and their treat bags. They had such a good field trip with the good people at Cub Foods making the grocery store fun for more than one reason. Even though Mallory missed out on a portion of the tour, she still had a fun time and made some great memories. First of many field trip memories I am sure.
